Multi-Action Rules: Move, Flag, and Forward at Once
What it is
A Multi-Action Rule lets a single category do more than sort. Instead of just moving a matching email into a folder, one rule can move it, flag it, mark it read, and forward it — all in the same pass, triggered by the same category prompt.
The problem it solves
Real inbox habits rarely fit “move to folder.” An invoice from a recurring vendor should land in Finance and get flagged, because you still need to act on it. A status update on a client project should move to that project’s folder and get forwarded to whoever’s covering client comms this week. Doing that with separate rules per action means maintaining several rules per category and hoping they don’t conflict.
How it works in AI Email Filter
- One category prompt, e.g. “Anything related to the Acme Corp website redesign,” can trigger multiple actions at once: move to the Acme Project folder, flag it, and forward a copy.
- Actions chain inside the category — you’re not stacking independent rules that each re-evaluate the email.
- Mark-read is available as one of the chained actions, useful for anything you want filed but don’t need to be notified about.
- Every action in the chain still shows up in the History tab individually, so a multi-step rule is exactly as reversible as a single-step one.
- Setting up your first Multi-Action Rule doesn’t require a separate onboarding step — Guided Setup gets you from connecting your mailbox to a sorted inbox with working rules in under 3 minutes.
This is most useful once you’re running email for more than one client or project at a time — see email management for freelancers and small businesses for how chained actions replace a pile of per-client filters. Multi-Action Rules are available on every plan, including the 200 free classifications — check pricing for what unlimited use costs.
